Do gray wolves participate in frugivory (fruit-eating) behavior when their caloric needs are met, and, if so, what effect does wolf digestion have on the seeds they eat? Project Blueberry is exploring these questions to better understand wolf behavior and their potential role in seed dispersal!
Thanks to the overwhelming support from our community, Project Blueberry has exceeded its fundraising goal! The blueberry garden is complete, the bushes are planted, and we now have funding to pursue laboratory electron microscopy imaging to analyze the seeds after they’ve passed through the wolves’ digestive tract.
If you’d still like to support the project, any additional donations will help fund further laboratory imaging. Each additional sample we can analyze will strengthen the scientific value of the results and shed more light on this relatively untapped aspect of the role wolves play in the wild.
This project has only been made possible because of people like you. Your continued support truly makes a difference. Thank you for being curious and for caring about wildlife.
